How To Use QR Codes

What is a QR Code? How to use QR Codes?

Do you want to try new and exciting marketing methods?

Do you like a low cost method so you don´t need to get an advertising budget going?

Advertising online is now an essential part of most business’ marketing strategies. And it is time for any business to start targeting mobile consumers. This is just another additional piece of the recent digital revolution pie. And yes, it is low cost!

Using mobile technology to constantly improve your company’s ability to generate more contacts and more sales is a smart choice.

So you should have already a mobile-friendly version of your website, but have you heard about QR codes yet?

If you’re looking for ways to gain the local competitive advantage in your area, QR Codes could be just what you need to take things to the next level.

QR Code is short for “Quick Response” code, which can be scanned and read quickly with mobile smart phones. These 2-D black and white barcodes can contain a wealth of information and once scanned, will take the user wherever you want them to go.

QR codes are created by using QR code generators to program where you want users to go when they scan your QR code, This could be to your website, to an online video, to an article, or any other digital media.

How does it work? Want to try it? We let you generate your own QR codes for free (see link at the bottom of this post)

Once your QR code has been generated, you can display it in electronic or printed format. Mobile users can then scan the code with their mobile camera phone’s reader. Once the code has been scanned, the user will be directed to the destination you have set forth.

QR codes are showing up everywhere these days as businesses catch on to the power they have to generate more profits. You’ve probably seen them on business cards, newspaper ads, flyers, post cards, TV commercials, billboards, T-shirts, and even posted inside of local establishments.

Benefits of QR Codes:

  • A quick way to distribute details about your products and/or services
  • Users can get INSTANT information about your business instead of waiting
  • No need to “re-print” if you want to change your marketing destination; simply make the change online and the QR code will then forward to the new destination
  • Can be scanned anytime, anywhere as long as the user has a mobile phone with a reader installed
  • They allow various functions when scanned such as ability to view websites, ability to read text, ability to view images and videos, ability to send emails, ability to call with one click, and more
  • A great way to send users to a coupon or promotional offer
  • Help your target audience quickly store your contact details with one click
  • Let local consumers grab the details about upcoming events related to your business
  • Work well for a variety of business industries in different ways; such as hospitality, retail, auto sales, real estate sales, and more
  • Perfect for sending users to your Social Media profiles such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Easily direct users to your online videos whether they’re posted on your website, YouTube, or any other video sharing website

Mobile Applications (Apps)

What are Mobile Applications (better known as “Mobile Apps”)?

Mobile Applications are increasing rapidly in the mobile phone world. More and more Mobile software developers are creating software aimed at making the lives of mobile phone users more interesting and convenient (and also creating additional business potential). Many mobile phone users are constantly searching for mobile apps that are fun, engaging, helpful and profitable.

Mobile apps can instantly connect mobile users to Internet services that are usually accessed on desktop computer. These apps enable smartphone users to carry out different tasks on their mobile devices without a lot of hassle, but more important anytime they want from any location.

Examples of mobile apps are a mobile website bookmarking device, a mobile-based instant messaging system, QR reader for instant access to coupons, and much, much more.

The first mobile app was created by apple for their users but with time, software developers ventured into all types of smartphones; making apps easily accessible to the whole world. Still, some apps are written for a specific mobile brand operating system

Mobile apps are simple software that run on mobile phones without any problem and assist users in different functions. Due to the low processing power of mobile devices when compared to PCs, these apps are created to be completely compatible with mobile phones to avoid any technical glitches.

Almost all people already use mobile apps without even knowing it. For instance, if you have a smartphone and you are using a mobile phone browser, then you are using a mobile app. Many mobile apps are pre-installed on smartphones, such as calculators, calendars, clocks, gps and many others.

These are some of the more simple mobile apps, but there more complicated ones that can perform quite a range of amazing tasks. It is believed that there is an application for almost everything in life. From the first application, the world of mobile apps has evolved extremely fast to what we have today.

People are addicted to mobile phones and apps play a major role in this. For this reason, businesses are quickly changing their marketing strategies and creating space for mobile apps in their marketing campaigns. There are mobile apps that have already made a name for themselves, such as social media sites. But this does not mean that you cannot create one for your business and get desired results.

With the number of mobile phone users increasing rapidly worldwide and communication companies designing smarter phones every day, one of the best ways to reach out to people is through mobile phones; applications to be precise. Mobile apps are an important part of the future for any business as the business owner could have an app developed specifically for his business. Therefore, it is importamnt that you evaluate your business strategies to see how mobile applications can help YOUR business to increase customers, sales, and profits.

Mobile Media and Communication in the Future!

Very interesting video on the future of Mobile Media and Communications in the Future:

Actually, this video describes the present more than the future. Mobile devices will not be recognizable in 2020. Just think back to the phone you had in 2002 and you’ll get an idea of the change coming in this decade.

Marketing With QR Codes.

Have you seen those little square barcodes around lately? They have been showing up in advertisements, posters, storefronts, and even product information material. They are called QR codes and were originally used as a manufacturing and inventory tool, but recently these codes started showing up in marketing material. Although somewhat of a leap, there was good reason for it. Smart phones and mobile technology. Because a huge segment of the population now use smart phones with zealous intensity, QR codes have become somewhat of a hit in the world of APPs.

Here’s how QR codes work with a smart phone. The smart phone owner can download a QR reader, activate that APP and then simply point their (camera) phone at a QR code which could be in a newspaper, on a poster, or in a store window perhaps. The reader sees the QR code and immediately opens up a browser on the smart phone that leads to a variety of additional information. This could be in the form of a text message, a webpage, a PDF file, or even a YouTube video. The idea is that those QR codes lead the user closer to a sale, an offer, or simply more information.

A business owner can use QR codes for marketing in many ways, limited only by their own creativity. It’s easy to create a QR code online as there are many free programs to do it. You just fill out some basic information – like for example the URL you want the QR code to redirect to, and then the software creates a QR code for you. You print that QR code up on a piece of paper or you put it in a print advertisement. Now when anybody sees that QR code and scans it, they will be brought to the URL you programmed inside of it.

You can learn a lot about ways to market with QR codes in your own city by just watching where they show up and how they are being used by other businesses.

One of the places I saw a QR code was inside a newsprint advertisement with a message directing the reader to scan the code to enter a contest online.

On the front door of a small bakery business next to its closed sign. Since it was closed on Mondays, scanning the code directed passersby to a webpage that had an apology that they did not realize it would close Mondays, and offered a special if the customer returned the following day. The cool thing about that is that they probably turn somewhat inconvenienced prospects into real customers that appreciated their efforts.

I saw QR codes in every vehicle on a used car lot that had high pedestrian traffic. Some of them linked to more detailed webpages, while others linked to short sales videos on Youtube describing the car in more detail in a very visual way.

Another way to market QR codes is if you’re in the real estate business and you attach a QR code to one of your real estate signs allowing the interested buyer to get more information about the property.

These are just some of the places that I’ve noticed QR code marketing within the last few weeks, so I think there’s going to be a lot more marketing strategies coming from creative marketers in the near future.

What Is A Mobile App?

You’ve probably heard the term APP over the last couple years and may have felt “out of the loop” so to speak. Well that’s probably because you don’t own a smart phone, because if you did, you would have a lot of “APPs” on it. APPs is an abbreviated term for applications, or formerly known as software programs. The term “APPs” became widely accepted after Apple opened their APP Store that offered for sale – games, music, and software programs for its iPhone and iPod devices. But now “APPs” is ubiquitous among all smart phone producers and software designers.

As far as a mobile app is concerned they are generally smaller, less intensive programs that can be installed on a user’s smart phone. Many smart phone users have dozens of these APPs installed on their smart phone. Because of the streamlined programming for these apps, quickly opening and closing them, one after the other is a common practice and is inherently characteristic of all OS platforms.

Let’s take the iPhone for example. When you first purchase one there are actually a few mobile apps installed already. A browser for example, which will allow you to surf the Internet. Apple owns their own browser called Safari and it’s on all iPhones. There are also other standard APPs on the iPhone such as the calendar, a clock, a YouTube browser, a compass, and a calculator. The world of APPs is really pushed by the software programmers that develop new applications based on one or more OS platforms. The most popular mobile APPs work on all mobile platforms including the iPhone, blackberry, and Android smart phones.

Some of the more popular mobile APPs come from existing online businesses that create APPs that help with traffic and usage of their website. Twitter and Facebook each have their own APP that you can download on any phone, which will allow a more simplistic user interface specifically designed for use on small touch screens. There are also book reading APPs from Apple itself called iBooks, and Kindle has its own APP as well allowing you to read books from Amazon on your cell phone!

You could probably go to any of your favorite websites, news organizations, or games and find an application for them. CNN, NBC, the New York Times, they all have one. And it’s not just reading because a lot of these APPs are real tools. Some of which you can talk to, draw or paint on – at least in a digital sense – create music, and learn from via video training or other online courses. Need a recipe? Yep – you can download recipe programs that help you decide what to make based on what’s in your fridge. Need to squeeze in a quick practice game of chess before your next class? There’s lots of chess games in the APPs store, and the business of creating games for mobile APPs is actually a massive industry unto itself.

One of the reasons why these apps are so popular is because they’re usually pretty inexpensive to buy, some of them even free. Sure you can spend maybe 20 or 30 bucks for a few of them but most are around $0.99 to $5. That makes it pretty easy for the consumer to buy these mobile APPs thus creating more sales and consistent profits for smart phone manufacturers.

Mobile Marketing Tips For Local Business Owners

As a business owner, you already know that marketing is important for growth of your business and even more true in today’s climate.

More and more, potential prospects are going to the Internet to locate businesses in their own surroundings. In fact, according to a recent research paper, over 35 percent of all search engine queries contain a city, state or zip code.

With over 3 billion local searches performed each month, the Internet has now surpassed printed copies such as Yellow Pages and newspapers as a primary source for local consumer service information and that trend is on the rise.

The popularity of web-enabled phones (like the iPhone) will only add to these numbers as over 25 percent of all mobile searches are searches for local information.
